Abstract
Immunohistochemical studies were done on the isoenzymes of glutathione S-transferase(GST) to oberve the distribution pattern and to find out the major detoxifying GST isoenzymes of the normal and cancer cells in the gastrointestinal and biliary
system.
Immunohistochemical staining for the acidic placental isoenzyme(GSP-Pi) and basic liver isoenzymes(GST-L) using polyclonal antibody raised in the rabbit were carried out by perxodiase antiperoxidase method.
@ES The results obtained were as follows:
@EN 1. GST-Pi is stained weakly and strongly in the normal surface epithelium of the gastrointestinal and biliary system, respectively and negative in mucous cells. Staining intensity of GST-L shows similar with GST-P in normal gastrointestinal
tract
but much lower in biliary system.
2. GST-Pi enzyme is markedly increased in the adenocarcinoma cells compared to the normal cells in all gastrointestinal and biliary system. While negative in the signet ring cells type.
3. major detoxyfying isoenzyme is the placental acidic glutathione S-transferase(GST-Pi) rather than other GST isoenzymes in the adenocarcinoma cells of the gastrointestinal and biliary system.
